Mae Stephens, a 19 years-old young girl originally from Kettering, Northamptonshire, has just signed with EMI Records after her song "If We Ever Broke Up" became a viral sensation on the video sharing platform TikTok. Mae was working as a cashier at a supermarket when a 15-second clip of her track went viral. Since then, she has receiving millions views on her videos. Since she was 12 years old, Mae has been writing and composing music on her grandmother's piano. She was the "loud, eccentric child" at school and utilised music to get through the cruel world of adolescence. She was resolved to keep on and show sceptics that they were incorrect.

Mae wants to be the one who stands up for the child abuse. If We Ever Broke Up by Mae has exploded in popularity, dominating both TikTok and Instagram. Mae thinks confronting her ex's dad how they treated her is a great way to reawaken her sense of self-confidence and assertiveness. Mae is now focusing all of her time and energy on her singing career, having left her job at Asda to pursue it. She takes the song as proof that individuals can get out of horrible relationships, and if she could turn back time, she'd give her ex's parents a call to spill the beans.
