The Pokhara International Airport inaugurated by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ had inaugurated the airport on January 1. The Pokhara International Airport is a project of national priority. This airport constructed with the loan cooperation provided by China. After January 1, domestic flights and landings of large aircraft are done from the international airport. The short takeoff and landing aircraft including helicopters and ultra -light will still operate from the old airport.

The number of air passengers coming to Pokhara is increasing every year. According to the authority, the number passenger traveling from Pokhara airport was around 850,000 in 2022, which is the highest ever in the history. 

 

The government had signed a USD 215.96 million soft loan agreement with China in March 2016 for the construction of the new airport. The grace period of the loan paid by Pokhara International Airport is 7 years. From 2024, counting from 2017, the authority has to repay the loan installments. The loan must be repaid within 13 years.

 

The airport should serve passengers in South Asia in the first phase and then the passengers in Western countries in the second phase, the official of the Pokhara international airport expressed hopes that the arrival of tourists in the town would increase significantly with the operation of the international airport.
